Scholarship

"Here at Southeastern, we are students first and sorority women second. Without coming to Southeastern for academics, we would never have become Phi Mu in the first place. We pride ourselves on encouraging our members to push themselves academically. If a member is struggling in a course, she has a whole chapter of girls ready to help her. Scholarship is the foundation of Phi Mu." - Jordan Rook, Fall '15

Phi Mu was proudly recognized as the top Collegiate Panhellenic Council Chapter on campus with the highest GPA: a 3.327. ‚Äč

Phi Mu was originally founded as a literary society and believes that the most important aspect of college is academics. As a result the chapter is committed to helping our members excel in this area. Phi Mu has an Academic Excellence Chairman dedicated exclusively to meeting the needs of individual members. From study groups to academic mentoring, Phi Mu provides support to encourage members to flourish throughout their collegiate years.

The Phi Mu Foundation allows members to apply for scholarships to reward those who have worked hard to be excellent students. Members who receive a 4.0 GPA receive a scholarship charm.

Each chapter is required to set an academic goal as part of its chapter plan and then receive ratings on the Phi Mu Commitment to Excellence evaluation related to these statistics.  All Phi Mu chapters are expected to maintain a 2.75 GPA or higher.  The majority of chapters consistently achieve grades above the campus all women's average.

We also have a leadership position within each chapter focused on academic excellence. This officer works with her chapter and Phi Mu's national academic excellence.  She keeps scholarship records for each member and provisional member, sends grade and activity reports to our National Headquarters, and provides interactive programming such as chapter competitions, incentives and scholarship dinners to encourage dedication to scholarship.
